For more info on the development of each image, just hover over it for a few seconds for one of those tool tip rollover thingies. Although, having compiled all this, it now occurs to me that I often just stick to one basic idea and develop that rather than going off on tangents. Think I'll try to go for more variety from now on. The frightening thing is how many of these sites are gone. Weird.

As well as producing graphics for the projects I've dedicated pages to, I've also designed single logos and symbols for other websites. Here are a few examples starting with the most recent.

I started off keeping it fairly minimalist, other than adding the 'pulses', the logo isn't too distracting Next I added some horizontal and vertical bars. The website is a depository for random files from all over the interweb, which made me think of some kind of giant computer vault
I continued with this line of thought, adding more grid patterns Finally I tried out a few other colours, red seeming the least in keeping with the colour scheme of the site. Unexpectedly, both myself and the webmaster quite liked this

These, as you can see; were designed for System17.com. I was asked by the webmaster to design a new logo or update the original. Using the idea of circuits or lighting effects was also mentioned. I thought the original logo was quite cool, so I decided to modify it, making it more cohesive and adding some kind of effects around the text. The pulses of light are intended to drag the eye along the words and evoke an idea of energy and power surging through. I ended up developing a grid pattern in the background which I thought was reminiscient of lasers, hence the change in colour.

The webmaster for this site was fairly clear about what he wanted. He provided me with some pictures of the cast and he knew he wanted a Star trek font used. The format of having two crew members, the ship and the title was already in his mind, so I didn't do too much development on this one. After getting approval on my take on the format I tried out a few variations with the LCARS style And we ended up with this design.
There were 4 initial versions with pairs of crewmembers(and Malcolm on his own, poor thing). As you can see from this one with Phlox, the site would not have been suitable for people with nervous dispositions Season 3 of the series was just starting up as I completed the original logos, and then they all did that thing where everyone has snazzier hair styles and a change of clothes. Or carpets, in T'Pol's case So I did a few more with the new photos and we also tried out some different background shots of the ship

Here you can see the development of some logos I designed for a website about the science fiction show Star Trek: Enterprise. I began with a simple format using publicity photos and the font used in the main titles of the series. I added a few styling elements such as the 22nd Century computer displays and glow effects and the webmaster was happy. The background and the shots of the crew were swapable, so a selection of logos based on the general format could be used. Each time the site was loaded a different set of the show's characters, or a different scene would appear along with the familiar text. Unfortunately, to my knowledge the site no longer exists. Come to think of it, neither does the series.

I tried to make these look interesting while not being distracting, so I went for a series of understated effects in the background, and a simple, bold typeface The layered effects either side of the text represent the idea of the site being made up of many blocks of information that coagulate to form a whole I also think they look pretty
The entire website had that blue/grey hue to it, so my logos did too At least until I got bored of the grey and tried out some more gazzy looks I prefered these more interesting colours, but they actually would have looked quite out of place
So I ended up going back to that greyish colour

These are logos I designed for another more or less defunct website, although they weren't used. The EFCL website is a message board forum and these would have gone at the top of every page, so I tried to make them visually stimulating, but at the same time blend in a little. Obviously you want it to be clear to people what the name of the site is, but at the same time no one wants a huge flashy logo distracting them. The grey/blue and white were the main colours used on the site.

My first idea before colours had been decided on The colour chosen was red on pink, so I started trying out colour variations
And lighting effects As well as the format of the text. This is the one that got chosen

PK.net is actually short for Partksing.net. Yes, that Partsking.net. But Partsking was a bit of a mouthfull, so it was shortened to PKnet. Unfortunately, another mouthful is located at .com(it's pornography, so don't go there if you're particularly young, old or have a cat allergy). So anyway, the boss needed a logo for the PK domain and I went through a few variations. I'm still not too keen on the pink backgrounds, but I liked the font so much I used it for my own logo. The PK domain isn't in use now apart from small sites like my own.

This might take a while to load on slower connections

This is from around the same time as the TNB logo and it's one of the first animated GIFs I produced. The background is not of my own creation, it's from a fan made Star Trek image by The Light Works. The transportery effect is all my doing though, and I think it looks pretty good considering I didn't even have photoshop back then. The logo was made for an RPG. And you'll never guess what... it no longer exists. Seriously, it's like some kind of curse.

Who wants to be a buzzionaire?

TNB(The New Buzz) needed a logo, so a competition was held and I won it with this. I actually prefered my other entry more, but after a hard drive meltdown I think I've lost that forever. I'm happy to report that as of writing; the website still exists and is used daily! And two or three years on this logo is still in use, although I think it demonstrates a gulf between my artistic abilities now and then.

The following are logos and banners I designed for my previous website The Denobulan's Sickbay. Starting with the most recent and going back to the first ones I made in 2002. I considered overhauling the whole site with a new design, but in the end I decided I wanted a thoroughly fresh start. And a less geeky website name. Denobulans are aliens in Star Trek, whereas John Pearses aren't in Star Trek at all.

This little banner shows a drawing that I turned into a more realistic image using good old Adobe Photo Deluxe This does look rather flashy, but it takes a daft amount of time to load. Not one of my best ideas This banner used elements of my Nihydron Assimilation Photoshopperama
And I created this mini Borg battle pic just for the banner. Now that's false advertising The background for this was my pic of Denobula. The text isn't great Sailing into the unknown comes from a line in Star Trek Nemesis, where they pretty much stayed where they were, only with more shooting

These I must've made quite recently since the last one uses a screenshot from a movie made in 2004. I think they were a last ditch attempt at making my site look flashy.

I was going to use a different part of the Star Trek Enterprise sickbay set to represent each section of the website. The door of course being a link to other websites I like this one, so it's actually on the old website. Just above the bit where it says it won't be updated anymore The first new logo I created. You can see I just copy/pasted that curtain to make the second one look more even

Above: The new logos I considered using if I updated the site design.

I ran out of space on the first Geocities site, so I got a second one for the rest of the images. This was the front door The first signal of my turning to the blue side
And the original logo. Phlox poking out there still amuses me, although it's quite rough looking over all I think I made this before there were any pictures of what the sickbay looked like, it's supposed to be a door sign type thing

And the original logos I used when I started the site in 2002.
